Full Metal Cactus is a 2D animated comic book about a bounty hunter on an abandoned cyberpunk dystopian planet. In this world, there are no restrictions in terms of style or physics. The story parodies Western films, aiming to be both entertaining and humorous. The project originally arose from a series of fragmented shorts with a diverse set of character designs. These shorts consisted of characters ranging from an 8-bit cowboy to a peanut wearing a top hat. In the process of working with these characters, the artist developed a story that connected the characters together. This project focuses on developing backgrounds, composition and color, as well as experimenting with new, challenging angles to give more depth to the scene and create more engaging images for the viewer.
Julian Kinney is a senior in Digital Media & Design with a concentration in Motion Design & Animation. He previously studied 3D modeling and later grew more interested in 2D and graphical approaches to projects. Most recently he is interested in background and set design, character design, and character animation. In his spare time, he has been writing two separate stories that he hopes to eventually turn into graphic novels. With his interest in character design, he hopes to one day become either an independent illustrator or an animator working at an independent studio.
